Karate

Boxing

Boxing takes place Mondays and Thursdays. See Activities list for times. This is run by a very experienced father and son team – Robert and Stephen Kipps. Both have been working at the Club for over fifteen years.

Their aim is to encourage our members to take up boxing initially as a training and fitness activity and at their discretion will enter a promising candidate into appropriate bouts.

They have had their successes.

Ian Nappa, who fought against Peter Capshaw for the WBU Flyweight championship of the World.

Shotokan Karate Academy is run by a husband and wife team Frances and Bill Gow on Wednesdays and Fridays 7.00 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Instruct to the 6^th and 4^th Dan Black Belt Standard.

All instructors have CRB checks and are registered with the Toyakwai Karate Association and the English Karate Federation.

Kelly Cooney who became a World Champion is one of the group’s successes.

The Gymnasium

Michael Watson, another champion boxer, who despite immense problems incurred in a fight, went on to complete a Marathon. A wonderful achievement.

Matthew Chanda, a young boxer who became National Novice Champion.

The Club is affiliated to the Amateur Boxing Association. Bob and Steve both hold qualifications from that body.
