The second Ely Place Boys Club
The second, Ely Place Boys Club, was founded in 1926 by Old Wykehamist Harold Llewelyn Smith and Philip Nash. Shortly after, Harold’s brother, Arthur, joined them, and the club was renamed the Crown Club when it relocated to the disused Crown public house. The club’s long-standing connection with the College began with the Llewellyn Smith family.

Todays Club
Today, the club maintains strong ties with both the College and the Old Wykehamist
community. It receives partial funding from the Wykeham Crown and Manor Trust, and its Executive Council includes several Old Wykehamists. Many also volunteer at the club’s homework program. The club continues its traditions, including an annual football match against the College, and last summer saw the return of the Crown and Manor summer school to the calendar. Looking ahead, we aim to further strengthen the relationship between the College and the club.
